Where are all of the Robertas who have spouting off that the MWC is ALL about Hoops? The Hair is not keeping with the 'butt hurt remants' line of explanation. Who is right? Hair or the butt hurt leftovers in a crappy conference that pays just enough in TV money to keep the lights on in their respective arenas after travel costs to the a majority of schools remote outposts? The Aztecs made the right decision and those that still think the MWC is where we should have remained there is not much more that can be provided to you to make it clear that the BE and BW were the options that best provide for not only financial stability, but for recruiting exposure. Whether it actually equates to winning more games remains to be seen. As I have all the money I need, it's really is about winning football games, especially "big ticket" games regardless of money or conference affiliation. It's about building a strong fan base as a result of success on the field, not the bank account or TV market. As I've long believed, it's not the money you make, it's what you do with the money you make. And frankly, over the last thirty years given the opportunities they've had, I've personally had a hell of a lot more success than Aztec football. As always, we'll see. That's nice.

Oh, and as far as the Aztecs big move to the BE? Bill Oram is a sports columnist for the SLTRIB covering UTE football. Today's column, "Hard to be Inspired after 1st weekend of PAC-12 games" talked about the cyclical success of football programs and conferences, but he includes this statement.. " Those are opportunities for the league to enhance its image, or at the very least for those programs to demonstrate that the middle of the Pac-12 doesnt sag as much as is feared.
These things are cyclical, and unless youre the Big East, conferences dont slowly fade away."When I played the game in the working world, one of the maxim's I subscribed to was "perception is reality". For anyone reading this column, this remark will arguably plant the seed, (if it hasn't already been planted), that the BE has, (to be nice), seen better days. What this means is as the BE fades into the sunset, and Aztec football is on the clock regarding membership in this east based conference, it will certainly have to raise its own level of success. They will no longer have the luxury of profiting off the success of other conference members when the success just isn't there. And unless the football program finally earns respect, other viable conferences will not be interested. Ouch. There will come a time when they will have to move on. I sincerely hope they are finally ready for it. We've made the business case for the move to the BE ad nauseum, what is the business case to stay in the MWC? Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards Nice one!

______________________________________________________ Yeah right, because over the last 30 years the program has been absolutely swimming in Money. Some how SDSU found the money to hire Chuck Long. Some how SDSU found the money to buy out Chuck Long after he failed as HC. Where did SDSU find all that money? Probably from "retiredaztec" as he has so much of it.

It was mostly pooled money from wealthy boosters sick of the losing. Of course, you'd know that if you weren't a "Tight-an". Thanks for stopping by and NOT contributing. What's a "Tight-an?" Thanks in advance for the explanation.

Thanks in advance for the explanation. If you don't want to spend money, you're considered "tight". The CSUF athletic dept resembles that statement.

The Sports Illustrated article made me again think of how important football can be to a college or university. Yes, FB is damned expensive, but notice, as explained in the article, how important the sport is to gaining more national attention and also money.
Administrators who feel that their schools can't afford FB might want to ask themselves whether they can afford to be without FB! Let's face it, other than football, most college sports programs are important only to the participants and their friends and family. Even basketball cannot come close to attracting the attention that football gets.
How many nationally recognized schools do not have a football program? Not many.
