Now that the board has cooled down a bit, I wanted to write up a few observations I had while watching the game in person up in Washington:
1) That Seahawk stadium is loud. With only about 50,000 people there, there were several occasions where my ears were hurting, and I was sitting up high!
2) Someone told me that Ed Hocculi's son was officiating that game. If that is true, then it's obvious that officiating ability is something that is passed down genetically. (This game was very poorly officiated...and not just against SDSU.)
3) I sat in "Rowers Central" Up in section 301, there were at least 5 men's team rowers sitting there, and all of them rowed at different times. (One guy from the early 60s, 78Aztec82 from the late 70s/early 80s, a guy from the early 90s, myself from the late 90s and another guy from the early 2000s)
4) That being said, there were a decent number of SDSU fans there. I'd estimate between 1,000 and 1,200, however, being in the upper section, I couldn't get a good gauge on how many people were in sections 101 & 102.
5) Colin Lockett has the potential to enter "Beast Mode" this year. Just about every time he ran down the field, he blew by the guy covering him. If Katz had more time in the pocket, Lockett could have had 12 receptions for 250 yards.
6) Props to Adam Hall. I noticed many stoppages of play due to UW players getting hurt, plus Price was limping by the end of the game. The Aztecs seem to be unfazed by the physicality. If this team can keep it up, they'll win a few games on toughness alone.
7) Props to the players. While it hasn't happened in the past 3 or 4 years, I remember the days when Aztec teams would be down 14 or more points in the first quarter, and the team would end up losing 56-7 or something like that. I'm happy they didn't quit and kept fighting...

Get that positivity crap outa here! haha Thanks for the insight on the game live, wish I could have made it up there. I agree on Lockett, he can have a much better year than last year, especially with a legit threat at the other WR position.

I thought it was a solid effort. Turnovers (One HIGHLY questionable) did us in. I was really shocked that SDSU lost the turnover battle in this game 3-1. The cr@ppy TD WA got off the fumble killed about any chance SDSU had of coming back. I hope that play doesn't stay with Colin! |

I attended the game and sat on the 45 yard line about 5 rows up behind the Aztec bench. My observations:
1). Seahawk stadium is very, very nice! I cannot believe it was built in 2004
2). Having attended a number of Aztec games in the past, SDSU has definitely closed the size/physical gap that existed with BCS/PAC12 programs. Our offensive line was bigger and physical and Kazee ran very physically and breaking lots of tackles.
3). Our DL is not as small as I anticipated
4). Our defensive back 7 is really good.
5). I think Katz holds the ball too long! Has to do a better job of anticipating the coverage and the routes instead of waiting for receivers to get open before throwing the ball.
6). Escobar wore a brace and did not appear to run as fluid?
7). I think we will win 8 or 9 games and should be favored in every game except Boise.

Butler "looks" like a monster when he lines up, he just needs to play like one for the next 12 games! |

The piped in noise from the speakers was very annoying. The Stadium was nice, but without that howl or grunt or whatever they pipe in, it was no louder than any other stadium.

We need to roll Katz out. He's listed as three inches shorter than Lindley and looks to be more like four.
I don't favor using Lockett as the go-to guy. Speaking of height, he's too short for that role and I'm still leery of his hands. So we need to get Butler involved too and if Denso continues to be unavailable, start getting Nicholas and Clark, who are 6-3 and 6-4, involved.
BTW, didn't Escobar wear a knee brace part of the time last year too?

2 unwelcome sights were the "PARK HERE" signs that were charging $50 or $40 to park for the game. With all the construction around the Clink parking is a CF and the guys with parking lots are gouging the public! You should have seen those guys last year when U2 came to town. There was a Mariner Game at 1 at Safeco and the concert was at 7 at the Clink. Parking was $10-15 for the M's game and when you came out they had changed them to $60 per spot. Nice work if you can get it. |

Being a guy who still follows Hawai'i since I grew up there, their top WRs were either around his height or shorter. |

So far this week, I have heard from 16 persons who are not affiliated with the Aztecs and ALL 16 asked me how the ncaa allows blatant and obvious cheatin by the refs to keep the Aztecs from winning.
I am sorry pac-fudge cheaters, you just don't know how many people are clued into your cheatin' ways. PFC.

BTW, didn't Escobar wear a knee brace part of the time last year too? I understand your sentiment about lockett but the next three games at home should allow him to gain more confidence and improve. He had success last year at Army and should be fine this week. Butler did nothing to earn the start against Army with his performance at UW what with the TRex move and a difficult but possible play in the end zone. We tried to get him involved. That said I think he will perform against the small DBs for Army and could overtake 3 for the start following. Nicholas is out with a leg. I think Denso should be ready, he was running around on the sideline last week, but IIRC never made it in. I have confidence in Nico and Ezell this home stand as well. And Vizzi is sure handed as well. I guess what I'm saying is we're deep at WR and we should expect a heavy rotation. With a little patience from katz and an improving OL..a run game and qb mobility from both 5 and 6, we should be confident and successful come conference time. |

Live, it was pretty quick and the WR's back was to us so we couldn't really see what had happened. It was clear that a PI call was coming but against which #2??
As soon as the ball dropped and the flag was down, McFadden was hustling back to the LOS making the sign for pulling a flag. He walked straight up to their QB Price, his HS teammate who was still well behind the LOS and had a few words. Not heated mind you, but what I would imagine was "your boy pushed off and that's the only way he'll get a ball.' Then he simply stood and waited. The Zebra then called the PI and marked off the yards and McFadden was now standing on the Aztec side of the LOS. It was pure confidence.

Big time! with the earlier Mariner game I was curious how the parking thing was going to work out but still had no problem parking along 4th for FREE!! The sunset view from Gas Works Park was pretty darn special as well. |
