Don't forget the really good ones that he stole from the Pac 10 that signed, and are now in the Pros. Craft obviously has an excellent football mind and just as obviously works very hard. However, to quote Al Campanis as he meant the comment, Craft "didn't have the necessities" for the job. Not close to enough viable experience dealing with academics and scholarships to be an FBS head coach and hiring him and the Chuckster set SDSU football back almost a decade.

I've heard him actually say this. lol I used to live across the hall from him at those old fish bowl apts on Hardy before they got torn down. We used to have complex parties when we cleared out the parking garage below. There was a bunch of broken bottles in front of both of our apts when he got home one night in the middle of one of these parties. Kyle bursted into my apt while I was entertaining people with a 6 foot bong and went on a roid rage, telling people he was going to rip their f'n heads off. That cleared everybody. Then he went down in the garage to do the same thing. More people ran in panic. LOL Sounds like he need a bong hit He didn't toke. I offered him nearly every day. lol. Some of his teammates did. :-)

"We didn't score enough points" Dan McGwire after they lost to Wyoming 52-51 Did they out-stat them? If so at least we got as moral victory.

This was quoted along with other great coaches quotes (most of them football coaches), and is from our own Steve Fisher. (probably from the first season when his teams were frequently stomped)
"If lessons are learned in defeat, our team is getting a Great education." S. Fisher

One thing I'll agree with you on is the fact that he didn't have D1 HC experience, so he did have to learn on the job in some aspects, just like anyone else would. People have to remember that he was told to go after all the good ones and see what sticks. He was told to win yesterday, even though he said that it would be a five to seven year plan before they start winning. So as a result of that, the administration is really the one to blame on in that situation, not Craft.

Remember, John, the NCAA has now imposed the APR. SDSU's administration learned its lesson after it allowed Craft to sign all those rocket scientists. Many were never admitted but IIRC, half a dozen from his two best regarded classes flunked out after one year. (Even at SDSU there are only a finite number of introduction to fine art and archery courses.) DI revenue sports everywhere are still FULL of kids who have no business being in college. College is FULL of kids who have no business being in college
