NO. And, no.
There is no indisputable evidence that "pitch counting" Strasburg will avoid an injury down the road.
The guy leads the majors in K's. Pennant races don't happen every year. The future looks bright for the Nats, but regardless....you go for it, and you keep your ace in there, even if you want to limit him to 6 innings/ 100-105 pitch count starts.

If the Nats were out of it, I think it's a perfectly legitimate conversation to have.
But with a great shot at the playoffs? Insane to even consider it.

I completely agree with Josh Jones. Also, use him now because he will probably never resign with the Nationals.

You owe it to your fans to go for the pennant.

It's impossible to tell what the Nats are going to day... since they appear to be completely clueless. As an example:
A couple starts ago vs the Braves, Stras pitches 5 scoreless innings (it was a struggle, the Braves left A LOT of runners on base) and then it starts to rain HEAVY. The Nats were up 9-0 at the time. With all the talk of limiting his innings... why wasn't he yanked after 5 shutout innings when HEAVY rain was falling? He already qualified for the W. There was nothing to gain by sending him out in the sixth. So what happens, he can't grip the ball in the rain and gets LIT UP for 4 runs.
It was absolutely stupid to send him back out in the sixth. The Braves ultimately came back and won the game.
So who knows what the Nats will do going forward.

Not saying I advocate doing so. My point was simply, if you're so concerned about pitch counts and they want to monitor him per start, I could see that. Doesn't mean there is evidence it will prevent injury. But if they think it will keep him fresher for October, great. Shutting him down in August would be stupid. He is their staff ace and a bona fide stud. Ride your horse.

I think they are handling him well overall.

I want to know what Stras himself thinks? Is his career in danger if he continues? Have him come out of the pen if its a marginal issue.

No. Keep an eye on the pitch count, but don't take the ball out of his hand in a pennant race.
A large part of being an ace is delivering when your team is fighting for a playoff spot.

The babying of pitchers is likely what has lead to injuries.

I say shut him down, but not completely. Have him sell beer or hot dogs in the stands. You could charge of premium for his section.
