Ron, as I said, Rivals ratings of SDSU don't mean all that much anymore. I've asked Augustin and Ruben why we aren't covered as well as we used to be and it's apparent the topic is embarrassing to them. They're just employees and don't make personnel decisions and for some reason, Rivals has decided to devote less attention to our recruits than used to be the case. ESPN has never bothered to rate classes past the first 25 so they're irrelevant to my topic. Or to put it another way, I think the best way to judge the quality of this class in comparison to everybody's else will be to see how Scout and 247Sports rate it after LOI signing day. Just a guess here, but I think Rivals coverage of schools outside of the top 25 will be closely related to the number of insider subscribers. I don't believe we have that many insider subscribers. Like I said, just a guess. I doubt that's it. Certainly it doesn't appear there's been any reduction in the number of subscribers. I've been one for about five years (IIRC, I joined soon after UpChuck was shown the door) and when I go to the insider site these days the number of people on there is always much greater than it used to be. I just think Rivals SDSU has cheaped out, which is why I assume the guy who runs - or used to run - the Hall of Champions stopped being the ASR guy, then they hired Edward Lewis and he has now left for their UCLA site. So I think Rivals simply doesn't pay enough to whoever is supposed to grade SDSU recruits to make it worth his while to spend much time on us. Heck, I remember when the guy before the present guy left. At just about this time of year a couple years ago there was nobody handling SDSU and although Lewis never admitted it, it was obvious to us subscribers that Edward just gave a grade of 5.4 to 6-8 of our recruits who had committed months earlier and never been evaluated.

It's not specific to SDSU. It's the west coast in general. There just aren't enough west coast recruiting analysts to cover the west coast, so other than the cream of the crop, kids aren't getting graded. This is compounded by our staff really hitting the underecruited Inland Empire area that isn't really getting much coverage. When the original Rivals guys sold out to Yahoo they lost staff to Scout and then when those guys started up 247sports Rivals lost even more staff. Guys like Shanahan, Lewis and Gonzalez have little or nothing to do with ratings. That is handled by the analysts. Take a look at the number if analysts employed in the west by each company and you tell me why more of our recruits aren't being evaluated very well or at all... 247sports.com/Article/247Sports-Analysts--26005recruiting.scout.com/3/bios.htmlrivals100.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=146002

I didn't mean to say that the guys who write for ASR evaluate players, simply that I think the turnover in writers is indicative of a tightening of the purse strings once Yahoo bought Rivals.

That isn't really true. Adam M, who was the guy before Edward, covered both SDSU and Colorado. When these types of sites really started to pick up, he couldn't handle both whic lead to Tom and Edward coming on board. Edward was the " promoted" to the head UCLA guy (not sure what happened to Tom). That was when Agustin came on as an intern and eventually took over full time. Reben was brought in shortly afterward.

Between Augustine and Rueben the converage of Aztec recruiting on Rivals is pretty thorough. The Aztecs don't get a lot of love from the National Rival's writers and recruits are definitely not given the benefit of the doubt with the star ratings, but I would say the overall coverage is very good. Probably no less than what UCLA gets? Maybe less experienced writers?
I would suspect the total salary/resources Rivals is prepared to allocate to each team is in direct correlation to the number of subsribers for each school.

Losing two recruits to UNR? Really? But then again, Malik Smith and Sergio Phillips canceled their trips to Reno. I wonder if there is something shady going on there that two bought in to and two ran from? No info, just odd coincidence... Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards

Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards It's more like our coaches noticed them going hard after our guys. They said take it or leave it I guess.

Dakota Turner also tweeted saying how he was called by Nevada as well a few days ago but he said "I'm an Aztec and I'm not changing my mind".

Now that we have Dominique Bierria, what are the chances of us getting his little brother Keishawn?

Sounds like UNR is going to the Urban Meyer school of recruiting. Not saying it is wrong; we just need to be aware that they may operate by a different set of "unwritten rules" than others do.

Recruiting is a constant battle until 2.6.2013. Coaches need to stay on the offensive until they sign all their preferred recruits
