no one is saying don't keep our options open, it's just unrealistic to say there are other options

I'm not arguing anything. I'm just posting up the numbers. They actually weren't as bad as I thought until these last two years.

I thought this was a thread about our schedule next season (WHEN WE ARE STILL IN THE MWC)!

BW average #20 MWC average #7
So, the numbers are as bad as I thought, lol. Interesting that the MWC trends significantly better during the great years SDSU has recently had.
You wonder what the effect of that will be on the BW.

ANYONE got an update on next year's schedule? (This does not include the bitch-fest going on in this thread).
BTW - The UT stated the Memphis deal was starting '13-'14, but was not finalized yet.

USD - frankly not sure why we should continue playing them, but we will Really? Maybe Cincinnati and Xavier should stop playing now that Cincinnati is in a "major" conference too.

Next year should be the last game in the rivalry if the BW does come to fruition the following year. We just couldnt afford to play a 250+ rpi in the OOC with 14 other 300+ rpi teams from Jan - March.

USD will always be on the schedule and should be with the city rivalry. Too bad they're terrible. Xavier is not terrible-- they are in fact quite good.

you are wrong. the ""reason"" big teams never want to play us has little to do with money and more to do with 'it's a bad loss and not a good win'. the people saying lets just schedule three times harder than long beach did this year are absolutely nuts. 1 - we would lose games no matter how good our team is and still be forced to win the conference tourney, and 2 - WE CANT SCHEDULE THAT WELL. a few big east teams is nice, but again, those that dont understand the problems that 16 300+ RPI games create should look into it. There will be no at larges in the big west. There will be a year we miss the tourney because Fullerton makes a half courter at the buzzer. There will be smaller crowds at Viejas b/c we are playing Irvine instead of Vegas. Fisher will retire within the next 5 years, and then why do recruits come? Obviously every OOC team on the schedule isn't going to be a top team. But you get to pay .500 record kind of teams to come into Viejas, and those games are easily winnable compared to Long Beach St.'s schedule of having to play everybody on the road. Do you really think teams like Wyoming, Air Force, TCU, and Boise State helped sell out Viejas? Do you think people came to watch those teams slow, boring, terrible offenses? No, people come because of the SDSU team on the court. Big west schools wont kill attendance. And playing Memphis, UCONN, maybe G'Town, Arizona, now UCLA gives us big hype games at home. In that amazing MWC you hype up we only had 1 big hype game at home each of the last 2 years. Now we get 2 or 3 and can still sprinkle in the WCC, mid tier pac12, MVC, maybe some MWC to even out the schedule like usual and give us fun competitive games. Also, look at the RPIs of the teams that would be joining our conference from C-USA if we stayed. We would have to travel across the country to play 200 RPI teams. But since you degrade our team by thinking national people look at losing at Viejas as a bad loss, then there's really no point of discussing it with you because you're stuck in 2007 and don't understand the new stuff going on.

I immediately discounted that post when in back to back paragraphs I saw "now ucla at home" and "you don't know the new stuff going on".
If we schedule ucla at home, F me sideways and call me a lobo, ill never post again.

Where did I say it's because we're in a 'major' conference - it's just a useless game playing someone with a chip on their shoulder - it's the exact reason we should never schedule and actively work to get out of the contract of playing San Jose State in football unless they're left blowing in the breeze when the WAC falls apart and their football existence is in doubt.

Not to ruin your little schtick with facts but there were a whopping 2 teams with a 300+ RPI in the BW last year, no one knows how the big west will look in 2 years, also USD could improve or get even worse in 2 years.

I am a Long Beach State Alum and a Aztec Dad. I and the most of the other LBSU season ticket holders would like to continue playing SDSU. Hope Monson and Fisher feel the same way. ' I'm with you for sure on that! The 'Beach has been a long time conference, and OOC rival, and we should continue that relationship. Next to the Aztecs they are one of my all time favorites!

monty, why do you wish to end a big Rivalry game with our in-city rival?
Even though the last time they defeated us was 2005, we have had some very close games against them. No, it's not like U$C/UCLA, but they do provide us with a game that gets the City talking about it, and provides us with a game even on their court you don't have to travel far to attend. We can't be City Champions if we don't play them, you know?
