Speaking of politics, ECU did NOT have a medical school or dental school 20 years ago but due to political support fought the NC legislature and had both approved. Btw, yes UNC was against this happening. Just surprised politicians that represent a region as large as San Diego have not been more public in their support for SDSU? Gotta agree with you on the end portion of your comment. How in the hell does UC Riverside get a medical school (which has been delayed due to econo crisis), before Cal Poly, SDSU, SJSU etc.!?Obviously, the UC is the reaserch branch of the 2 systems and we're the normal branch. But instead of given research expansion to Cal State institutions that deserve a broader medical program that includes more than nursing, UCR is given the go ahead. Bull-crap!

I believe it has a lot to do with intellectual elitism and politics on the part of the UC system.

With that said, I'm suprised the SDSU alumni aren't more vocal? There are scores of multi-millionaire graduates of SDSU, but they don't seem to support the sports programs like other schools and many of the major big time donors to the sports programs aren't even graduates of SDSU. I have to agree with you. Well, actually, I agree that SDSU alumni could actually move the Aztecs to the forefront if they were united and inclined to do so. I am not so much surprised that they haven't done so. A good majority of the alumni have no sense of pride in the school they graduated from. A big part of that is the sports teams of the recent past, for the most part, have not won. And, unfortunately, sports teams are generally where any sense of pride in ones school seems to come from. That said, should the Chargers leave town which results in a stadium crisis for the Aztecs (not saying it will, just saying if it were to result in a crisis) or if the BCS schools actually break away from the NCAA for football and form their own dealio, SDSU alumni will absolutely need to unite and act as never before.

I have always wondered the same thing. What s force we might be if The Community, The alumni, The Students, The Faculty and our local Legislators were on the same page.

Just some ramblings kinda related to this topic:
Actually I was thinking about the squeaky wheel getting the grease and wondering about this situation. When you think about SDSU's grads and the large % of them that remain in the area and with that # look at how (poorly) until recently they support the teams and Univ. I have a hunch that support also reflects the amount of noise and activism related to changing the profile of the school. Weber started a movement w/o him where would we be?
The U has some guilt here in that frankly they have done a crappy job in the past of maintaining connections with the alumni and using SDSU's successful alums as spokesperson's for the school.
Take a look at a U$uC sideline sometime, it's who's who of their alums and L.A. personalities.
Don't be an abalone, get off your rock & make some moves to help!
