The UT said it was a car owned by Locksley's wife and son, driven mainly by Locksley Jr., and that the kid driving was a friend of Locksley's son, so not exactly the original report. I would bet that if he had been winning, that would have been NM's excuse for keeping him. Another apple form the Big "10" low-life coaching tree.

I wonder if that means the son is transferring out or getting pushed out? Kind of like our Craft situation, except Kevin was at least on scholarship and getting some playing time.
Did you guys know Toby Neinas is the linebackers coach there?

Hauck is starting his second year and has 3 more on his contract. He doesn't have the multiple off field problems Lockesly had, and will be given at least 3 full seasons to show improvement. Maybe four depending how next year goes.

always an interesting question - how long do you give a coach (e.g. Hauck) to build or destroy a program. How long would Frank Beamer have lasted here...
2–9 3–8 6–4–1 6–5 5-6 2-8-1
Then of course...
9-3 8-4 10-2 10-2 7-5 10-3 11-1 11-1

Not quite the smae as what UNLV and UNM are doing this year.

Maybe four depending how next year goes. How come UNLV is doing so bad? They are much worse than they were two years ago before Hauck came in. Everyone has always said how great Hauck is.... From what I can tell, Hauck's biggest problem is how overrated Caleb Herring was. Anybody who watches Herring can see he has Backup written all over him. Only average mobility, locks on to his primary receiver, doesn't have a strong arm, etc. How he was ever given a 5.6 rating by Rivals is beyond me. Hauck's next biggest problem is not having a stellar tailback. Instead he has the kind of running back by committee that Chuck Long had. I also think the Rebels are similar to the Craft-Chuck Aztecs in that too many of them look weak. That's not surprising since Sanford was pretty much a Craft clone. He would pull off the occasional upset and then fail to beat several opponents with no more talent than he had. So the jury is still very much out on Hauck, I would say. Trouble for SDSU and the rest of the MW is that continued miserable play in LV and Albuquerque is a major detriment to the national image of the MW. We all thought Chuck's 2008 team was awful but LV is equally bad right now and UNM is even worse.

With Hauck, because he hasn't started to show any signs of improvement, it is just going to be that much more difficult for him to recruit for the future.

Hauck will get at least through next year, and probably two more years at UNLV. I never understood the fascination with him on the prior board. Inheriting the Montana dynasty isn't exactly the same as building a program.
I would be worried if New Mexico hires Mike Leach, he should be able to turn that team around pretty quickly, but I guess that would ultimately be good for the conference.
I know there were a lot of rumors around Franchione coming here when Hoke was hired. I wonder if there is any talk of him going to New Mexico.

Somewhere around here a poster mentions a JC coach. His name rhymes with Bomb Raft.

Mike Leech is the first guy they have been talking to him for months. Rich Rod is looking at it too.

If I were the UNLV AD I'd have hired Hauck. He's an up and comer but he needs some time while he's taking over a program at a B-Ball school. He's still operating with the former coach's players. Sure as Hell Hauck has a greater upside than Locksley. He just has to improve every year in order to prove it.

I wish they would have kept him, I like automatic W's on the schedule. What do we care if they suck? It's too bad for him, but I agree with you that if he stayed we would be feasting on W's when we played that school.

I wonder is the new commish of the notso Big 12 helped find Locksley for UNM. Or, didn't anyone else notice that Chuck Nienas is the new commish. Yes, the same Nienas that found us good Ole Chuck Long is the new leader of the Big 12

Yes, the same Nienas that found us good Ole Chuck Long is the new leader of the Big 12 That is as incorrect as your vehement defense of Tim Sullivan. Neinas' recommendation to Jeff Schemmel was that he hire Jimbo Fisher. Instead Schammel hired Chuck after the most stealth recruiting of a football coach SDSU ever had. The likely reason is Schemmel never intended to hire anyone else since he and Chuck had become friends while at Kansas State. Don't believe me? There were several articles published which can probably still be found by using Google.

UNLV and UNM have put their money in MBB now maybe the time for the MW to ask them to use the money on football or look for a new conference-
