I don't get it. There are some really random schools being thrown around in the expansion frenzy but not once have I seen SDSU or UNLV mentioned. I don't get it. Both have competitive Hoops programs and SDSU football is on it's way up. Both are in Big markets too. But from all indications neither schools hasn't even got a sniff from other conferences. I just can't believe that SDSU and UNLV are that undesirable.

I have been saying this for awhile, but the reality is there are no real options for teams on the west that aren't in the Pac 12. Logistically it would be difficult for UNLV and SDSU to join a BCS league. Plus neither has the academic reputation that puts them on the map.
Many on this board don't want to believe it, but the best case scenerio is still for the MWC to gain an auto BCS birth. With an equal playing field and increased resourced the MWC could legitimately challenge the PAC 12 as the top conference in the west. Or at a minimum the top tops teams in the MWC certainly could. It would be nice if TCU stayed and we work out a championship game with Conf USA. You win out with that schedule and you have a legitmate shot at the national championship.

I just can't believe that SDSU and UNLV are that undesirable. First off, you need to throw basketball records out the door. Nothing matters in these moves except football. It's not fair and I hate it as much as everyone else, but it's the way it is. I agree about the TV markets, and I think that's our best asset, but UNLV's football has been so bad for so long that I just don't see them getting a second look in any of these talks. |

Vegas needs o bite the bullett and build an all purpose stadium w/ retractable roof. It's embarrassing to highlight our champion to play in the vegas bowl.
For SDSU, I have said for years that the lack of local fan support(win or lose) was going to bite us in the ass down the road.

we are on the south west tip of the contiguous united states. Being a geographic outlier precludes us, and then we get into fan support, etc

Simple answer: Geography. The Pac isn't looking to expand if it's not certain to include Texas and Oklahoma. Okie St. and Tx Tch would merely be coming along for the ride to provide a regional division. But since they already own the western part of the country, there's no need for them to backfill their coffers with more western schools. It's adding markets they claim they already own (which is debatable at best).
The only hope at this point for SDSU is for the Big XII-3 to decide they want a piece of the California market. Otherwise, it's MWC AQ or bust.

We'll finally have a BCS who really understands our program and the direction it's headed. No expansion talk yet, but at least we'll have the Big 12's attention. Sterk needs to start talking to Neinas now! |

What is with you and the academics at SDSU? Whenever you get a chance you throw something about that in a post. I am informed enough to know that SDSU is no Stanford, however, there are plenty of BCS schools who have lesser academic reputations than SDSU. (As I have said, I am going to call you out every time you backhand SDSU's academics.) Since you went to UCSD and all, you should know getting invited to a BCS conference has little to do with academics and everything to do with $$. It is about TV revenue and audience draw. That is where SDSU is currently lacking. Certainly the potential is there but years of football futility have put SDSU behind the eight ball. |

Wasn't that part of the reason UCSD was denied it's application to the Big West last year. Wait, I think UCSD only inquired about applying and it was told no. Part of the reason I believe dealt with academics not on par. Yet, UCR, CSU Fullerton and CSU Northridge are in the BW. Most tritons would argue that UCSD is better academically any of those or all of those combined. See the academic requirement for membership is just bullmanure. |

Sterk needs to start talking to Neinas now! I don't see SDSU getting added to the Big 12 even if it expands now. First, if the Big 12 expands, it is not going to add more than three schools and the candidates are BYU, AFA, Houston, Louisville and WVU, although WVU is to hell and gone and unlike SDSU, brings no TV potential. Fact is we own a big house but it's on a cul-de-sac people are going to have to go out of their way to get to, plus for a decade we let the place go to crap and we're only now beginning renovation. We are therefore not one of the better candidates for presidency of the homeowners' association. HOWEVER, the Pac-12's decision not to expand again for awhile buys us time. We can't move our house but we can make it the nicest looking one of everybody who's running for the homeowners' association presidency. Therefore, if the time comes when both the Pac-12 and the Big 12 expand to 16, there will be eight available slots. We need to keep Rocky Long around and become just as good as Boise State in football. If we do that, with everything else we have going for us, we will definitely be one of the eight offered admission. |

Here’s something to make you feel better, anytime you see them mention Boise State just know that we are getting in before them. It drives me crazy when people mention Boise and then say SDSU is too far…Boise is a farther distance from Big 12 country than SDSU. We are closer, bring access to the most populated state in the union and Southern California recruiting, have the #28 media market all to ourselves that is twice as large as the entire state of Idaho (which they share with Idaho & Idaho State), are light years ahead of them academically, have vastly superior hoops. SDSU has been good in football and hoops for less than a year and we need to show that it wasn’t a flash in the pan before the masses take notice.
Also, anytime you see them mention a Texas school to the Big 12 know that we are getting in before them too. I strongly disagree with SGF that Houston is getting in a Big 12 where UT is a member. UT owns the state and doesn’t need the University of Houston’s help in the Houston market. In fact, they don’t want Houston elevated to BCS status because that would hurt UT's ability to recruit there and it is the largest city in the state by a large margin. Houston is to the Big 12 as SDSU is to the Pac 12.
