This is where you are wrong. The school does charge students for tickets, it just doesn't happen at the ticket windows when they pick up their tickets. Every student, whether they plan on attending a game or not, pays for tickets every semester when they pay the IRA fee. I'm sure if you were to ask the entire student body if they would want to return to the old system, and charge just the 2,500 students who attend basketball games for their tickets, or keep collecting $200 from everyone on campus, they'd gladly give up the "free" tickets. And taxpayers, whether they want to or not, are paying to keep the athletic department running. Without their contributions, the IRA would either have to more than double, or sports/spending would have to be cut. Just because students are "paying" for tickets doesn't mean they aren't also subsidized. The two aren't mutually exclusive. I'm sure if you were to ask taxpayers whether they want to contribute to SDSU athletics, the answer would be a resounding no, which is why you don't ask a question if you know you won't like the answer.

This is a stupid pissing contest, née, argument, over semantics. You are both right, you are both wrong. Taxpayers pay for the athletic department to exist. Ira fees pay for student tickets to those athletic events.
There, done, its over. No one is James carville here. Let it go.

I have no issue with students scalping their tickets. Most students are on budgets and can use the extra cash. I have issue if the buyer is Not an Aztec fan.

That's why I said there needs to be a system developed to prevent it from happening. Like you, I live in the S.F. Valley so I'm never going to get season tickets as I do for football. However, for future reference, if a student is interested in making some cash for a game of this magnitude, I would buy their tickets and take a buddy. YBU is leaving but if Freneck ever gets really good in basketball, I don't ever want to see them take over our house. Same for UNLV.
