Referred to the Grossmont CC team as "Gauchos". It's Griffins.

State listed as his last option after Nevade and MTS. I guess is we won't see him, we'll see.

Before Grossmont, he was a walk-on at New Mexico while Rocky was the coach. Local kid. jcfootball.scout.com/2/992714.htmlMcLeland prepped at Scripps Ranch High School in San Diego and decided to walk-on at New Mexico. "I didn't get a lot of recruiting attention, but they liked me enough to offer me a walk-on so I took it," McLeland told JCFootball.com recently. "After the season, coach (Rocky) Long left and I didn't think I would get much of a chance with the new staff, so I decided to come home and since Grossmont is so close, I made the decision to play and see if I could get someone interested in me." Big kid at 6'4" 200. www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4DTpCdwPmc

I welcome Alex but we still need a big time JC receiver. One of the tops in California.

I watched a couple Grossmont games since my Grandson was on that team last year. Alex McLeland is really good. He has good hands and seemed pretty fast and fearless. I am surprised he has not signed with someone already.

As far as reported forty times go, if we look back to our Las Vegas Bowl in '98, I doubt Lonny Mitchell ran a 4.7 forty, yet against a strong head wind, he flat out smoked Dre Bly (North Carolina claimed he ran a legitimate 4.2 forty) in a sixty yard dash. They do indicate what sort of foot speed the runners may have, but obviously aren't gospel truths.
As for Jerry Rice, he had a certain elusiveness about him that really set him apart. Not necessarily foot speed, but that ability to shift or change speeds or both.

Rice was also an incredible route runner.

i dont think a 40 time is too big an issue i know it looks good on paper. but if you look at his touchdowns they are for the most part deep balls where he is behind the secondary. like i said before i like this guy and he seems to be getting some good separation and runs great routes

Kind of reminds me of Bill Hammett Jr. Came to The Mesa from Grossmont College, as I recall, and was a pretty darn good possession receiver. Probably should have had more passes sent his direction!

I went to see a friends kid play at Southwestern this past season and they happened to be playing Grossmont, and I watched this kid systematically destroy their DBs. I know Southwestern wasn't that great last year, but I think he had 10 receptions for like 200 yards in that game, and made one of the nicest catches I've ever seen. He has amazing hands, and runs clean routes. Losing 2 veteran receivers with no proven veterans returning, if this kid is interested in walking on, it would be a huge win for the Aztecs to land him.
