Miracle energy source?
If it was true, which is much in doubt, what do you think the long term effects would be?

Imagine if a year took a century to unfold and you were born in the dead of winter; the coming of summer would seem a frightening change, with temperatures rising dramatically and seemingly without limit. |

Somethings gotta suck...can't have only a positive reaction...for every action there's an equal re-action...
I think Hamster treadmills are the most efficient forms of energy...

I am sure the "hate Mankind" left will find a reason, even if it is perfect. One drop of water having the same energy as 40 gallons of gas with no side effects but heat and helium - oh, doctor.
It would first be used to replace coal. Coal miners would be screwed. Then natural gas would have its run cut short. Natural gas may move to semi-large transportation. Large boats will then transfer over to the new power source. Electric cars would flourish as the price of electricity dropped. Cheap electricity would make the production of hydrogen very cheap and the next big thing would be fuel cell transportation across the board (except flying) making gasoline use decline. The middle east will be screwed. 3rd world nations will finally get the power they need to move up the food chain.

if it were real, the only way to stabilize the global economy would be make it available to everyone in the world at the same time. By notifying other states of this advancement, we would allow them to prepare for the effect that it may have on their/our way of life.
all speculation of course.

If true, it changes everything.

How selfish soever man may be supposed, there are evidently some principles in his nature which interest him in the fortune of others, and render their happiness necessary to him, though he derives nothing from it except the pleasure of seeing it. Adam Smith |

Can't resist a shot at the left can you. I would think that this would be something the 'left' would embrace. Let's see where it goes. Having ties to SRI does give it some legitimacy.
Tried to review their powerpoint presentation. That sound you heard was the wind whistling through my ears.

Part of the left would. But the part of the left that is crying about the population bomb being so wrong will not embrace it. They want mankind to reduce numbers for more than our normally "thought of" pollution problems. They think man himself is the pollution. An energy source like this would allow human populations to explode. Energy is a limiting factor. Extremely cheap energy also transforms water (another limiting factor) into a non-factor in population growth.
