Forum Rules & Disclaimer (Please read) « Thread Started on Sept 26, 2010, 8:05pm »
Here are some basics...
*Be (somewhat) nice. Be civil. Keep the name calling and profanity to an absolute minimum. Let's keep this a nice forum for our various discussions. (We just don't want endless bickering, and we want this to be a family safe board...)
*We will issue warnings to let you know if you have crossed the line. Continually breaking rules or ignoring warnings will be cause for you to be banned. I don't think this will come up much (if at all), but it's just common sense. A warning is nothing personal, it's just our way of trying to keep things civil and focused on the topics instead of each other.
*If copying text from a copyrighted article to make a point limit it to a key passage or very short paragraph (a couple sentences) and post a link for the full article. Paraphrasing the gist of what the article says in a shortened form would be a better option (along with the link).
*If posting a picture make sure it's work safe. That should be self-explanatory.
*If posting a link to an article/story please do not just post the link and nothing else (especially if the link is to a subscription site). At least post some basic info about said article/story. Even one or two lines of info would be good.
*Spamming is also against forum rules. If you're not sure whether or not you're spamming, you probably are. A link or comment once in a while is not spamming unless promoting or selling something is the sole purpose of your post.
*Posting the same thing over and over again ad nauseum would also constitute spamming.
*Stirring up trouble by posting a topic with the sole intent of getting a negative reaction is also against forum rules. We don't want 12 page flame wars. Don't start them.
*No classless, mocking the other team when they lose posts/threads. Win with class. Act like you've been there before.
*Do not post comments specifically about other board members or start threads about other board members. Even if the intention is good the results can often become ugly.
FYI...
I just updated the board settings so that each individual member can see his (or her) current warning levels. NO ONE ELSE CAN SEE IT (besides AztecWilliam or me).
It's meant as a semi-friendly reminder that there are rules to follow and that you have crossed a line that really shouldn't be crossed.
After a previous debacle on the board I thought it would be prudent to let each of you see when you have taken a debate too far into personal attacks, insults, namecalling, etc.
As long as your warning level is relatively low it really is just an FYI, but also a good reminder of the forum rules as well.
Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

Gosh, Erik, Giving people nicknames or saying that they are pussies is part of the fun of the forum. Bolshoi Bill is a very fitting nickname for Aztec Bill. You mean we cannot give people nicknames any more?

Nicknames are fun. Take the Pathological Liars Clique that constantly posted that Tom's problems in the losses in 2004 and 2005 was that he was calling the wrong plays. He did not have an Offensive line that was consistently competitive and that was all there was to it.
The PLC was well earned.
Then there was that dingbat bimbo who was going all around the board making up lies about what I had posted. She could never link to my posts that she made up lies about, so I nicknamed her in appropriate fashion. She earned it. Boob did the same thing all of the time, so he earned his nick name. As I posted then, "If it is not true, then it is a lie."That is a very simple definition. It looks like he is well behaved now, so I will refer to him as Bob for the time being. If he starts his crazy crap again, I will be forced to give him back his nickname.
Weirdness deserves nicknames and invites innovation for the occasion.

Let's keep in mind what this board is for. It is primarily for the sharing of news, ideas, and opinions related to SDSU athletics and academics. Secondarily, there are sections for the discussion of various other sports and non-sports topics.
AztecMesa is intended to be fun and non-threatening. We do not want anyone to decide not to post comments for fear that someone else will respond with ridicule or hatefulness.
I can assure everyone that the administrators of AztecMesa cannot, for several reasons, tolerate repeated cases of some members making hateful or belittling comments aimed at other members. Erik and I have made that pretty clear on a number of occasions. Some people may feel that such activities are part of the fun. That is not true on AztecMesa.
I believe that we have the support on the vast majority of AztecMesa participants on this issue. I would hope that those members who are in agreement will support our expectations for board decorum. Those who do not support us are free to participate somewhere else.

Since there are several different threads that seem to constantly come up, can I suggest that we create a new forum on the main page, under the Aztec Sports banner, we create a sub-forum called "Dead Horse." In there, we can have free-for-all threads on topics like Chuck Long @ SDSU, Tom Craft @ SDSU, Day Vs. Night Games, The "DS" Logo, etc. The rules would be similar to the politics board...what happens there, stays there.

It's only fun for those giving the nicknames. We don't want this to be a hostile environment where some people feel like they are going to be attacked for posting their opinions (thus leading to some people not posting at all).
We want this board to be fun for everyone, not just the people who are clever with the insults and whatnot. This isn't Jim Rome's Jungle. It certainly isn't the Smack-Off.

Not if they're mean spirited and/or the other party objects.
