ESPN rumors section is reporting Big East is going after BYU & AFA again. insider.espn.go.com/ncf/features/rumors "Both BYU and Air Force were targeted by the Big East during the prior round of expansion. Both turned down the league. The unsettled nature of the Big East surely played a factor at the time. Both programs may reconsider if the Big East makes itself a more attractive -- and stable -- option under the supervision of Aresco." IMO this would be best case scenerio for the Aztecs. I know many of you never want anything to do with BYU again, but I miss hating those bastards!

The only thing against Air Force is the blocking at the knees. All in all, I'd say Air Force would be a better "get" for conference perception. Every red blooded American respects the Zoomies...

Meh, I'm on the fence about it.
BYU doesn't bing enough money to the TV side of things to deal with their nonsense and I've completely flipped on AFA/Fresno.
SGF and Monty, among others, have sold me on CSU Fresno being a better overall addition for SDSU/BSU in the BE.

It's unhealthy how much I hate BYU. I don't want to be in a conference with them again.

I would prefer Fresno State or UNLV simply because they would be a perfect fit and would improve the Big West. Let's not forget that we are a basketball school now.

I say get them on board, both add respect and large fan bases. Sure I hate BYU like the next person, but I don't want a conference of buddies. UNLV would be great if they cared about football.

This story will probably develop pretty fast if it develops at all. Makes sense that Aresco will want to know who his members are before he sits down with ESPN in two weeks. Didn't read the article (I'm too cheap to subscribe) but if Fresno wasn't mentioned in it, that's a scary sign for them.

I hope it's football only for BYU. basketball is already in a perfect fit with the WCC. As for the Force? meh. they can go anywhere.
So would this open up the MW for Denver and New Mexico State?

I hope the BE stops at 14 - more mouths to feed. Apperantly both ybu and afa would bring in additional $ but if the contract is already done, then it'll be too late for that. Only reason it would be good to go to 14 is to have anohter western school.
I still think that as bad as unlv football is... they may be next in line - they have a bigger name than anyone of the other left-outs, a decent tv market and I'm sure we'd support them as it would help our bball out.

I like the idea of the Big East strengthening the western side of its Western Division for football and believe that over the long haul it will be necessary. To do that, I like the addition of Fresno State and Air Force, especially with Navy in the Eastern Division beginning in 2015. I hate BYU, but like it or not, they would strengthen the Western Division, but should only be admitted if their television package baggage can be left at the curb or compensation can be provided to the satisfaction of other conference members. Over time and with the ongoing contraction and realignment of Division I football schools the Big East emerges as the All-America Conference leading to the Conference Championship decided by a game between the winner of the Big East Division versus the winner of the Big West Division. Instead of being "football only" members, the enlarged slate of truly western schools become the Big West Division members of the Big East>All America Conference.
As for hating BYU, save some of it for this year's Poinsettia Bowl when the Aztecs will be meeting them once again.

Why would we not want to play the most hated rival every year? That's part of the reason there's a lack of support for the program. There's not really an annual "big game" that draws buzz around the campus and community. For example, Look at Texas/Oklahoma, Alabama/Auburn, Florida/Georgia, ect. Those are not only rivalry games but events that draw a large amount of interest and pack the stadiums. In my arm chair AD opinion SDSU should keep BYU, FSU, and UNLV on the OCC schedule and turn those home games into some kind of big events.

It would sure be nice to have a game late in the season where it doesn't matter how the season went, just win the game against the rival! Like the Civil War and Apple Cup. No matter how Oregon State plays throughout the season the game against Oregon is always huge.

Hoops is close, football it isn't anything. We may hate them, they don't care. Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards

If BYU is added the overall value of the contract would be increased. Is the amount of the increase more than 1/14th (if they are the 14th member) of the contract? If so, then the amount the Aztecs get increases.
