Hey folks, this is Brett Edgerton, the college basketball editor for ESPN.com. I like to scan message boards across the country to gather reaction to our various stories and I couldn't help but notice that someone pointed out we "mangled" Geckshow's name in Dana O’Neil’s feature piece today. Upon further inspection, it looks like that's correct. The only thing I couldn't get full confirmation on is whether to capitalize the S in his name, but for now I've corrected it to Geckshow. Beau, if you're out there, let us know if you prefer a big S!
Anyway guys, I've got to run (quite a busy day...thanks, Bruce Pearl), but just wanted to say that I enjoy your message board (Cougar Board can be, well, hard to read at times) and I hope you all continue to read (and enjoy) ESPN.com. In my time as editor, I've tried to get rid of as much East Coast bias as possible. By hiring a full-time writer in California for the first time (Diamond Leung) and doing things such as the Cover It Live chat for the first SDSU-BYU game and sending writers to both matchups (Katz will be there Saturday...please be nice to him), I sincerely hope we are slowly changing the perception that ESPN ignores anything good out West...and let me say, you've had a perfectly good argument in the past.
You won't always agree with everything we write about your Aztecs or MWC hoops, but my hope is that you at least start to feel like we're being fair in our coverage. I won't lie...it can be difficult to give a school like SDSU equal coverage when I have to watch the budget and almost all of our writers live east of the Mississippi. But trust me, I am trying. There's great college basketball being played in every corner of the country and I want to cover it all.
I am not one of these editors who hides behind a curtain either...if you feel like dropping me a line and letting me have it about something you think we're doing wrong, or could be doing better, feel free to shoot me an e-mail at brettedgerton82@gmail.com. I can't guarantee an immediate response (there are 347 fan bases I'm dealing with after all), but I can guarantee you that I will read it and take your concern seriously.
I'm trying to make the college basketball page on ESPN.com as fan-friendly as possible and this is one way I'm trying to reach out, to the true fans on the message boards...from EVERY region of the country.
Hope you enjoyed Dana's article on Fish and The Show and best of luck the rest of the season. I will be in Houston in April...hope to see you there!
Take care,
Brett
