Wow. .5 runs a game. How can people blame Black? Mitt Romney couldn't restart this economy. My Grandmother offered to play second base for us. She feels she can do the same as Curly Hudson and would do it for $50k a year. Big savings for the management. Many major league and NL records will be achieved this year against these "major leageures." Can we call in Charlie Sheen?
Below are mlb.com's "Top 100 Players Today." I'm sure there's plenty of disagreement. For example, some one of us might have included Headley or Venable.

The minor league system is indeed FLOURISHING........
In a perfect world, wed have guys in the minors pushing and saying, Hey, take a look at me, Padres General Manager Josh Byrnes said before Fridays 4-1 loss to Philadelphia. In reality, weve got a lot of (prospects) who are either banged up or are not off to great starts.
Now today's article seems to say that most of the top prospects are looking just like the big boys. Lots of whiffs, low averages and OBP. And the Blanks project has been derailed for another year.

3 weeks isn't very long in baseball. Lake Elsinore started 2-7 but is 7-1 since. It doesn't look great but it is early.
Imagine if a year took a century to unfold and you were born in the dead of winter; the coming of summer would seem a frightening change, with temperatures rising dramatically and seemingly without limit.

The big league club is just awful offensively. Calling the Padres a "AAAA" club offensively is accurate. Chase Headley has the skill set to start for many teams, but lacks the power you would want from a 3B (which I can live with). Other than that, there's not much, though I do like Maybin's potential.
Mark Kotsay was batting 2nd when I was there Sat night (thats horrible). Nick Hundley was hitting cleanup. Jason Bartlett (a utility infielder for most any other team), and O-Dog are the middle infielders. Jeremy Hermida was hitting cleanup at one point last week.
Will Venable is a "decent" player. He can hit .250, steal some bags, and occasionally go yard. So in other words, he is a 4th outfielder for any contender.
This is going to be a long season. I'm just glad I got to see a victory. Luebke has a bright future, and I like the SD rotation just fine. It's just the offense is full of stiffs.

Who effing cares about the won/loss record of a minor league team? We're looking for impact players that can help the Padres. If they come from AA or AAA, that's fine. You have been talking about the Lake Elsinore W/L record for 4 years now, dude.
I'm sure you will retort that the W/L record is the overall judge of the talent....but, it's NOT. It's nice to win down on the farm, but players come and go, and demoted, promoted, rehab stints....we just want to see players PRODUCE, at any level.

Actually two years ago I was most excited by "A" ball having the best record in baseball. a Year ago it was "A+", and last year "AA" had the best record in baseball...notice a pattern?

At least they're finally open to moving the fences in again. That's a win for the future.
Moving the fences in won't help the Padres and only marginally increase scoring.I was at the game last night. The first play the shortstop bobbled the ball enough to allow the runner to be safe on a play that was somewhat close but an obvious out. A guy three seats from my yelled, "come on blue". I asked him if that was the shortstops nick name. I don't think he liked that.

Fences aren't the problem. I hope they don't mess with them. We did just fine at home the first 6 seasons or so at Petco. Easier to build a winning team around pitching and defense then pricey sluggers.
I'm not saying that it's a hitter's park. It's not. What I'm saying is that other teams would benefit more from a change in configuration than we would (at least under the kinds of owners we've had for the last 30 years or so.)
And yet, since it was opened the Padres have had the lowest home field advantage in the NL West. The Padres are the only team in MLB that has a better road record than home record over the past 2 years.
Note: home field advantage is the difference between wins at home and wins on the road.

And now in their latest attempt to secure next June's #1 draft pick, we not only snap the Cubbies 12 game losing streak but send them on a two game winning streak! I sure hope that whoever the new owners are, they won't be salvating over the next Matt Bush type pick. "Help wanted. Bring bat."
