Hello Aztec fans, Udub fan wondering about your team and what you are expecting for the game this year? I am honestly pretty ignorant of Aztec football, but I did watch the game you played last year against our cross-state step child.
So yeah, SDSU @ Washington?

Well, if the UB Defense still looks like it did in the Alamo Bowl (or against Oregon or Stanford or Oregon State you get the idea), or if the team comes out flat like it did in the opener against Eastern last year, then we'll light you up.
Personally, I am thinking a shootout.

I think Washington wins by double figures but we'll see.

Channeling from the above, we should score. We have an excellent pass receiving TE in Gavin Escobar, one very fast WR with shaky hands in Colin Lockett, and USC transfer wideout Brice Butler. And Washington's secondary was terrible last year. OTOH, we've lost a few key guys from our defense and mobile QBs like Keith Price are an excellent way of defeating the 3-3-5. So shootout is a good term for what I expect too.

Welcome to the aztecmesa Udubawgpack. We're looking forward to the game. Both teams lost plenty of talent. SDSU has to rebuild the oline. Our starting quarterback is gone due to graduation and our starting tailback opted to exit early for the NFL. With that said, SDSU has brought in a former PAC12 QB, Ryan Katz (OSU) that has starting experience. The depth at tailback is impressive with very good talent on it. With Sark canning most of his defensive asst. coaches, it looks like UDud has more on the rebuilding front because of that. It's also a bit of a relief that Polk opted for the NFL. We're very aware of the threat that Price poses. He's a damn good QB. Also, it's known that Sarkisian can coach. I think that this game will be like a boxing match with punches going back and forth. SDSU will win it by decision.

Like others have said, it should be a shoot out. It just depends on who's D can get the most stops.

I always have high hopes, but Udub is rebuilding faster than we thought and Sark can sure coach. We still should make the trip and play the game. We will be much better on offense than people think but defense will be a huge question. Huskies by 10.

I'm not sure I agree with this "Sark can coach" stuff. I think he's a hell of a recruiter but I'm not impressed by a couple of 7-6 seasons with all of that talent.
Hell, they almost lost to Eaastern Washington in their opener last year and we're just a hair better than Eastern Washington.

Yeah, we are really hoping the new D staff can make a quick turn around otherwise it will be another year of blow outs and shoot outs for us. I disagree with the comment that our secondary was terrible, they were actually our best unit and will be again this year. The problem is our front seven was pathetic at times and that caused obvious headaches for the DB's. We did lose Polk, but we have Bishop Sankey and Jesse Callier who have each showed play making ability in their backup carries behind Polk. After that we have JC transfer Sims who will be playing his first year at RB (he played QB at JC). Deontae Cooper is an unknown, as he missed the last couple years from two torn knees in a row. With Josh Shirley and Danny Shelton coming on strong at the end of the year last year we do have hope for the D-line, but we will believe it when we see it. Safety Nate Fellner was moved to OLB to add speed to the position, and he was one of our better tackling safeties so that should make an improvement at that spot. Like I said above, our secondary is not bad and in fact is probably one of the more talented secondaries in the PAC. Desmond Trufant and Sean Parker being the standouts. Justin Glenn is back after missing a year with a broken leg and backing the starters up we will have James Sample and Shaq Thompson (teammates from Grant Union HS). Our offensive line is an unknown at this point because of off-season injuries and a couple new starters. The strongest positions on offense will of course be QB and WR/TE as Price has some big targets to throw to in Kasen Williams, Kevin Smith, TE ASJ, James Johnson, and the other WR's don't have a lot of experience but most have size and are all around 6'3". With exception of Marvin Hall and Jaydon Mickens, who are each smaller fast guys. I think we will win, but opening season games can be tricky and tough to predict, so who knows really

I'm excited about the team next year but we never win this type game. Huskies win & probably handily.

Who knows, we have a new QB and RB.
UW is supposed to be a top 25 team, so the conventional wisdom suggests that UW should win by 10 points. But who knows, maybe we have another Hillman in the backfield or Santos behind center.
Factor in that this game one of the season and anything can happen, but UW should win if they are far as long with Sark as they believe.

If the new guys on O and D lines play well, it will be a great game. Got my tickets, flight, and several beers with my name on them waiting for me at Pyramid Brewing Co. Can't wait. I'll be up there scouting next week too.

It's a beast of a game because I think Washington is going to be good -- as in a step away from a BCS bowl game good.
Breaking in a QB and new running back to replace two outstanding ones is hard enough, and our best receiver has never caught a pass as an Aztec. But what really worries me is UDub's physicality and whether our D has the ability to handle the Husky TE. We could die a death of thousand cuts if we don't find a containment for that guy.
On the plus side, we will score some points. I just don't know that it'll be enough.
The competitiveness of this game very much resides with how well our defense plays for 4 quarters. If we find ourselves down at any point more than two possessions, it'll be a runaway. We play Big 10 teams very well, but Pac 12 speed gives us a lot of problems. Huskies have a mixture of Pac 12 speed and a physical game. It's a very tough matchup for us.

Cost us big time.
